I ran an update on my computer last night & now this morning whenever I've turned it on I'm stuck with a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.

Hold shift during boot, then hit E to edit the GRUB entry. Remove the part that says quiet splash and replace it with text to see what's happening during boot.

Just use print('\033[?25l', end="") to hide the cursor. You can show it back with print('\033[?25h', end=""). It's as easy as that.
